Job Description
In this position, you will:
- Interpret internal or external business issues and recommend best practices
- Solve complex problems; take a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions
- Work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations
- Lead functional teams or projects
- Take full responsibility for the definition, approach, facilitation, and satisfactory completion of projects (typically with direct business impact and firm deadlines)
- Identify, assess, and manage risks to the success of the project
- Ensure that realistic project plans are created, maintained, and ensure regular and accurate communication to stakeholders, consistent with the methods in use (Agile, waterfall, etc.)
- Ensure quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure
- Manage the change control procedure and ensure that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets and are signed off
- Provide effective leadership to the project team and take appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
- Advise on the available standards, procedures, methods, tools, and techniques
- Evaluate project and/or program performance and recommend changes where necessary
- Contribute to reviews and audits of project and program management to ensure conformance to standards
- Promote and ensure use of appropriate techniques, methodologies, and tools
- Manage financial planning and budgeting. Develop financial plans and forecasts. Monitor and manage IT expenditure, ensuring that all IT financial targets are met, and examining any areas where budgets and expenditure exceed their agreed tolerances. Analyze actual expenditure, explain variances, and advise on options in use of available budget.
- Analyze business processes; identify alternative solutions, assess feasibility, and recommend new approaches, typically seeking to exploit technology components
- Evaluate the financial, cultural, technological, organizational, and environmental factors which must be addressed in the change program
- Establish client requirements for the implementation of significant changes in organizational mission, business functions and process, organizational roles and responsibilities and scope or nature of service delivery
- Ensure that program/project leads and/or service owners adhere to the agreed project management approach and timetable and that they provide the appropriate information to agreed targets of timelines and accuracy. Produce reports as appropriate for project governance, including making recommendations for changes to the project
- Define solution development projects which support the organization's objectives and plans.
- Ensure that senior management is both aware of and able to provide the required resources. Facilitate availability and optimum utilization of resources.
- Monitor and report on the progress of development projects, ensuring that projects are carried out in accordance with agreed standards, methods, and procedures (including secure software development).
Required Skills - 5+ Years Experience
Utilities experience is required
Top 3 Must-Haves (Hard and/or Soft Skills):
- IT project management basics (scope, schedule, budget planning and tracking)
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with large scale technology implementations, ideally with a utility.
Top 3 Nice-To-Haves (Hard and/or Soft Skills):
- Organizational change management experience
- Maximo Implementation
- Utility Work & Asset management practices experience
Certification Requirements:
- PMP preferred, not required
Team and Work Environment:
- A high-level overview of the team size, roles, its initiatives/deliverables, and any tool/technologies specific to the team/department/project they will be supporting:
- Enterprise Work & Asset management IT Team. Looking for a project manager to lead client's Maximo Application Suite upgrade project.
“A day in the life” of this role:
- Completing project planning, documentation, coordinating resources and partnering with vendors.
Interaction level this role will have the team members and hiring manager:
- High interaction with manager, key team members and vendors.
The top priority for the worker over the first few weeks/months:
- Complete packaging of documentation for kick off of system integrator RFP.
The biggest challenge in this role:
- Large scale, wide audience of impacted stakeholders, so staying on top of the implementation and the broad communication needs.
Location is Portland, OR with Work from Home Flexibility. Consultants should reside in the area or indicate the reason they are willing/seeking to relocate. Also, interested Consultants must indicate they are willing to relocate at their own expense as this position does not offer relocation assistance.
